RV Tips: 5 Ways to Make Your First Camping Trip Easy

Getting out to the campground with your family is a great way to spend time together and enjoy your time off from work or away from school. Below, we will share some of our favorite RV tips for making the most of your first camping trip so you can enjoy making memories with your family.

Plan Ahead

First and foremost, you will want to plan well ahead of time for your RV trips. Campgrounds book up fast, especially during the busy season, so it’s important to call ahead whenever you know where you’re going. The last thing you want is to arrive at the campground without a place to stay.

Practice Driving, Parking, and Hooking Up Your RV

Next, you’ll want to take some time to practice hooking up your RV to the towing vehicle. If you’re used to looking up trailers for towing, this will be similar unless you have a fifth wheel. After you have the RV hooked up, take some time driving around so you can get used to the feel of how it feels to take turns, how did back to the RV properly, and how to park it safely.

Learn How to Dump Your Tanks

One of my main tips for any first-time RVers is to make sure you know how to use your black and gray tanks before filling them. The black and gray tanks on your RV hold black water from your toilet and gray water from all other water sources in the RV. Draining and/or cleaning these tanks can be a messy job, so make sure you know what you’re getting into before they’re full of contaminated water.

Pack Meals Ahead of Time

One of the best ways to speed up meal times at the campground is the prep your meal before you leave. Make a campground menu and get your ingredients ready and in the cooler, before you leave town so you can enjoy quick and easy meals once you’re settled in at the campground.

Research Your Destination

Lastly, you will want to research your destinations, so you know what highlights you want to hit in the area and which things you won’t mind missing out on. Additionally, this is a great way to understand how to pack properly for the weather and whether or not you should plan for rain during your stay, etc.
