Camping Recipe: Cheesy Campfire Philly Cheesesteaks

Ingredients

  • 1 lbs. sliced roast beef
  • 2 onions
  • 4 green peppers
  • 1 loaf garlic bread
  • 6 slices pepper jack cheese
  • 2 tbsp. vegetable oil
  • salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Wash and dry all produce.
  2. Carefully slice the onion and peppers into thin strips. You can do this before leaving home if you want to make this recipe even easier. Just store the veggies in a sealed container until you’re ready to us them.
  3. Over a strong fire, heat a drizzle of oil in a cast-iron skillet.
  4. When the oil pops when it is sprinkled with water, toss in the onion and peppers. Cook until browned and beginning to soften. Remove from the heat and set aside.
  5. Cut a large section of aluminum foil to fit the garlic bread. You’ll need to slice the bread in half, lengthwise, and add a layer of roast beef.
  6. Next, add the peppers and onions, another layer of beef, and the remaining peppers and onions.
  7. Top with all slices of the cheese and then the top of the bread.
  8. Cover the sandwich with two layers of foil and place over the fire.
  9. Cook for around 10 minutes or until the sandwich is heated through and the cheese has melted.
  10. Slice and serve hot!
